Description:
Created during Chapter 2 (2020 - 2023), this piece is part of the Versions of Robert Collection—a deeply personal body of work reflecting my journey through my mother’s stroke, dissociation, and eventual dementia. This period of my life involved immense inner soul work, each piece acting as a page in a diary, often accompanied by a poem or story.
This particular work speaks to the balance between effort and surrender, movement and stillness. The tortoise, a timeless symbol of wisdom and endurance, carries the mountain on his back—a reminder of the burdens we all bear and the art of moving forward with grace rather than resistance.
The words within the illustration are integral to the message:
• “The Tortoise carries the mountain on his back.”
• “The X marks the promise of letting go.”
• “The Stillness of Flow.”
• “The Clouds – The Sky – The Learning – No Control.”
This work invites the viewer to reflect on the beauty of stillness, the quiet power of patience, and the wisdom of letting go. It is about embracing life’s movement without force, allowing things to unfold naturally in their own time.
Inspired by the wisdom of Lao Tzu, the piece serves as a visual meditation on acceptance, surrender, and becoming.
A reminder that sometimes, strength is not in control, but in trust.

Giclée Print | The Stillness Of Flow
Lao Tzu - Inspiration for my soul today:
Life is a series of natural
and spontaneous changes.
Don’t resist them
that only creates sorrow.
Let reality be reality.
Let things flow naturally forward
In whatever way they like.

When I let go of what I am,
I become what I might be.
