Description:
 
Created during Chapter 2 (2020 - 2023), this piece is part of the Versions of Robert Collection—a deeply personal body of work reflecting my journey through my mother’s stroke, dissociation, and eventual dementia. This period of my life involved immense inner soul work, each piece acting as a page in a diary, accompanied by a poem or story.
 
“In The Forever of The Abyss” explores the moment of confrontation with one’s deepest self—the space where all distractions dissolve, leaving only the raw essence of being. The abyss is not just emptiness, but a place of profound realisation.
 
The painting visually captures this through bold, sweeping strokes and deep, textural blacks, contrasting against soft, fragmented tones of warmth. The circular form suggests a vortex, an eternal pull inward, reflecting the poem’s meditation on surrender and self-awareness.
 
The work asks:
•    What happens when we let go of control?
•    Can we unlearn the patterns that shape us?
•    What does it mean to truly touch our own heart?
 
The abyss, once feared, becomes the teacher—holding space for transformation.
This piece is an invitation to sit within the unknown, to embrace the space between fear and transformation, and to see what emerges from the silence.
